500L Brewery 4 Vessel Brewing System

SDET BREW 500l brewery 4-vessels brewhouse comprises 4 separate vessels: Mash Tun, Lauter Tun, Kettle, and Whirlpool. Each of these tanks is dedicated to performing a single process and is designed differently than a similar vessel used for performing multiple processes.

Our four-vessel systems offer the highest throughput and the most versatility. With proper vessel sizing, well-laid-out hard piping, and well-designed controls these brewhouses can be extremely large and only require one person to operate them. The ability to make more beer with less labor input, paired with gains in efficiency and quality control make the four-vessel brewhouse a worthwhile investment for breweries that intend to produce a lot of beer.

Process Flow in 500L Brewery 4 Vessel Brewing System

  • The mash tun is a crucial vessel in the beer brewing process. It mixes crushed malt (grist) with hot water to create a mash. The heat activates enzymes in the malt, converting starches into fermentable sugars. It maintains specific temperatures to optimize enzyme activity for efficient starch conversion.
  • In beer brewing, the lauter tun serves the critical function of separating the wort from the spent grains after mashing. This process, known as lautering, involves straining the liquid wort through the grain bed, which acts as a natural filter. The lauter tun typically features a false bottom and a series of rakes or knives to facilitate this separation. Efficient lautering ensures a clear wort, which is essential for producing high-quality beer.
  • The kettle is where the wort is boiled with hops. Boiling the wort serves several critical functions, such as Sterilization, Hop Utilization, Enzyme Deactivation, Protein Coagulation, and Concentration. this process typically lasts between 60 to 90 minutes.
  • The whirlpool is used after the boiling stage to help separate hop particles and other solid matter (trub) from the liquid wort. It helps to clarify the wort by allowing solid particles to settle out in the center of the whirlpool and collects the trub into a cone at the bottom, making it easier to leave behind when transferring the wort. This process ensures that the wort is clearer and free from unwanted solids before fermentation.

Advantages of a 500L Brewery 4 vessel brewing system

  • Efficiency: Each vessel can be used simultaneously, allowing for a continuous brewing process and higher production capacity.
  • Flexibility: Multiple batches can be processed at different stages simultaneously, optimizing workflow and reducing downtime.
  • Quality Control: Separate vessels for each process ensure better control over each step, resulting in higher-quality beer.
